Part Iii

In Part Ii, we learned how Mr. Edwin C. Barnes met with Mr. Thomas Edison and made a proposal for partnership. Edison made a counter-offer by contribution Barnes a job instead of the partnership that he wanted. Instead of giving up and going back home, Mr. Barnes acceptable the offer to work for Edison. Staying focused

During his daily work, Mr. Barnes was all the time on the look-out for ways to be of aid and to spot inherent opportunities. He must have been very observant of his surroundings because his big break came in an unrecognizable way and from a distinct direction than where he was expecting it. His level of attraction was so strong that he attracted his desire not in the way he wanted it but in the way that God wanted to bless him.

Mr. Edison created a dictating machine that his salesmen were not enthusiastic about selling. They didn’t think that it would sale without a lot of effort. Mr. Barnes immediately recognized an opportunity. Why? His mind was oriented to spot opportunities all nearby him. He clearly recognized that this was an opportunity to fulfill his desire of becoming Edison’s partner by taking the new invention and selling it to the best of his ability.

Mr. Barnes saw opportunity where others saw obstacles and fears because he was truly concerned in Edison’s work, which ultimately lead to his goal of becoming a partner with Edison while everybody else continued to sit back and complain about how they “couldn’t” sell the dictating machines – basically giving a lot of excuses.

Mr. Barnes displayed superior reliance in his own abilities by suggesting to Edison that he would sell the machine. And sold it he did. Barnes lived up to his claim by selling the machine so successfully that Edison gave him a ageement to distribute the machine nationally. Talk about exploiting an opportunity! He hit this opportunity out of the proverbial park. He hit a home-run. He became a company partner with the great Thomas Edison – goal achieved and desire fulfilled.

What can we learn from Mr. Barnes?

Mr. Barnes teaches us that thoughts are things and that our thoughts can make us rich. For example, Barnes earned two or three million dollars based upon one idea. Clearly, Barnes became a very wealthy man, but his most asset was not the money he earned, but the fact that he learned how to take his thoughts and transmute them into material rewards by the application of positive principles. Remember, the only assets he started with were his desire, his knowledge of what he wanted, and his estimation to stick with it no matter how long it would take to realize.

So what is the inexpressive of Think and Grow Rich?

The inexpressive was revealed to us by Mr. Earl Nightingale, one of the pioneers of the self-improvement business and co-founder of Nightingale-Conant, in one of his audio recordings. I know this is not an earth shattering insight, but this inexpressive has puzzled me for years until I surely started to pay attention to what Mr. Hill and other writers have been saying and writing. The key to surely “getting” this insight is to contemplate how you think and the results you are getting right now.

If your results are not what you want them to be – contemplate what you have been thinking about on a daily basis and you will see that your results match your thoughts – exactly. If you want to convert your results, convert what you think about on a daily basis. Your outer “physical” world will match your inner “mental” world – perfectly. If you have not aligned your thinking then you will have the touch of incongruence – nothing will match.

The best way to find out if your thoughts are aligned with reality is to look at what you are currently experiencing. For example, if you want to touch success in your job, you first have to identify what success means to you. Does success mean promotions, more money, or more responsibility?

The next step is to look at what is surely happening in your current environment. Are you having the touch of promotions, more money, or more responsibility? If the reply is “no,” your thoughts are not in alignment with your desires.

Introduction

The test of a good filing theory is being able to find something when you need it, regardless of how you pick to manufacture it. However, there are two basic approaches to setting up a filing system:

· manufacture categories for like items by subject (e.g., Hobbies)

· manufacture an index based theory with files identified numerically by item (e.g., File 1=Document 1)

You can pick the formula that makes the most intuitive sense to you. Citizen who have trouble categorizing may feel more comfortable with the indexing approach. Regardless of which type of theory you choose, if you feel overwhelmed about where to start, pick a group of papers in any pile. It does not matter where you start…..you just need to start with a manageable subset of paper.

Active files are those which you must entrance regularly. Historic files are those that it is unlikely you will need to access, but which you must keep for article holding purposes (i.e., tax files). Your inactive files should not be kept in your active file space, if file cabinet space is limited. These files can be stored in boxes in an out of the way location (since you should not be accessing these files regularly). To originate your active files, effect the steps outlined below.

Organizing By Category

Step 1 Sort & Discard

Review your papers and discard any papers you no longer need to keep. If you feel unsure about discarding an item, in order to make the decision easier, ask yourself what’s the worst thing that could happen if you throw it away? It helps to put things in perspective.

When you settle to keep a paper, sort the paper into various categories/piles. Use post-it notes to label the top page of each pile until a permanent file location/category name is established later.

Use categories that are broad for sorting. For example, if you have lots of data on various freedom interests, you can originate a hanging file called “Leisure” (vs. Creating a hanging file for every type of freedom topic in your papers).

If you have a major hobby such as photography, for which you gather a lot of information, originate a separate hanging portfolio named “Photography”. This makes more sense (so that the “leisure” file won’t become too unwieldy).

You can originate manifold interior file folders that reside within the hanging file folder, each labeled with the type sub-topic. This makes it easier to quest by sub-topic. For example, within the “Leisure” hanging file type you might have file folders for the sub-categories of Art, Music & Reading.

Step 2: settle Quantity Files Needed

It is also helpful to have a calendar file to keep things needed for events already recorded in your calendar (e.g., directions to event, handouts, etc.)

· You can use color coded folders to visually recognize subject categories

· You can alphabetize your file folders by hanging portfolio tab name, but if you use staggered file tabs, you’ll have to redo the order every time you add or delete a subject.

· Pendaflex, a leading builder recommends that files should be no more than ¾” thick. If you need a file with a greater thickness, you can use the “box bottom” hanging folders.
